Scotland's oldest continuously inhabited house dates back to the 12thC. Originally a hunting lodge for the kings of Scotland, it has been visited by 27 Scottish monarchs. There are strong associations with Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobites and there is a secret stairway used by Catholic priests. In one of the wings of the house lies an 18thC working brewery that continues to brew the world- famous Traquair House Ale and there is also a maze, craft workshops, gift shop, 1745 Cottage Restaurant and extensive woodland walks.
