Flag Fen is one of the finest Bronze Age archaeological sites in Europe with the oldest wheel in England and an ancient wooden trackway stretching across the Fens. Finds associated with this include an amazing collection of Bronze Age swords possibly placed as offerings in the water. With over 20 acres of parkland and historic reconstructions you can discover how people lived 4000 years ago. Take a walk on the wild side around the mere and fields, marvel at the ancient tools, jewellery and woodwork. Special events run monthly throughout the summer from pond dipping and artefact handling to re-enactments and experimental archaeology. Learn a new skill at a weekend workshop from willow sculpture to sword finishing, flint knapping to basketry. Workshop places are limited and must be booked in advance. Hands on activities for all the family are run on select days in the school holidays. Ample free parking, refreshments and shop available for visitors. Pre-booked groups and school groups can visit all year round and are eligible for discounted fees. Guided tours are available subject to volunteer availability.
