Founded by St Wilfrid in 672 AD, Ripon Cathedral, as it stands today, is the inheritor of over 1300 years of history and worship.
From its unique Saxon crypt, outstanding misericords and mediaeval tombs, to its copper and marble Arts and Crafts pulpit, contemporary bronze sculpture and reredos, designed as a war memorial by Sir Ninian Comper in 1926; the fabric of the Cathedral bears witness to the generations who have worshipped here through the ages.
Dominating the Ripon skyline, this wonderfully atmospheric building has inspired the likes of Lewis Carroll and Wilfred Owen and continues to inspire and uplift the many visitors and worshippers who seek out its peaceful surroundings.
