Peter Pan Cup Christmas Morning Race

Lifestyle: Mind Body Spirit

If you happen to have thick skin or an excruciating hangover and have got nothing better to do on Christmas morning, make your way to Hyde Park's Serpentine Lido. The Peter Pan Cup Christmas Morning Race is a "refreshing" dip.

The lido is a popular haunt during the summer months, but when the weather turns miserable it closes up shop and swimming fans turn to indoor pursuits. That is, apart from Christmas Day, when a handful of hot-blooded bodies prepare for a seasonal dip in the chilly waters. Those taking part compete for the Peter Pan Cup, which was donated to the club by author, J M Barrie.

NB: You must be a member to take part, so pop down when the pool is open and join up. Spectators are welcome.

Directions

The Lido is situated in the middle of Hyde Park. Walk from the southern end (Kensington High St) or (a shorter walk) from the northern end (Lancaster Gate/Queensway tube). The pool is close to the pavilion.
