Following the success of its well-established summer event, the National Centre for Early Music provides seasonal entertainment at venues across the city during the York Early Music Christmas Festival. Not surprsingly, concert repertoire and themes explore advent and sacred music.
The seasonal fare starts before the festival proper on 1 December with an International Young Artists Showcase as well as a performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio, while the festival itself includes concerts featuring Russian winter, Hanseatic and Victorian Christmases and performances by Ex Cathedra, English Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble and The Tallis Scholars.
