Funfair rides and food stalls crowd Stratford-upon-Avon's streets at the annual Mop Fair. This traditional medieval street festival sees the pretty town host a vibrant two-day party with hog roasts, fun charity events and more.
The Mop Fair takes its name from a medieval hiring event where agricultural and domestic labourers would try to find work by parading around the town carrying an implement showing their trade. Those who had no particular skill carried a mop head.
The festival has moved on from its medieval origins, yet it still draws hundreds of locals and visitors alike. It lasts for two days with a 'runaway mop' one week later.
