York Open Studios promotes direct public access to York-based artists and creatives by presenting their works in non-gallery spaces. A hugely popular event and an enjoyable form of cultural exchange, it thrills visitors with compelling installations and unexpected sights.
Homes, schools and community centres are some of the venues being reinterpreted as creative spaces for the duration of York Open Studios. For its entire duration, art enters the public domain and anyone with an interest in the creative process has an opportunity to ask artists and craftsmen about the creative process and how they conceive their works.
Access to all the venues is free, and demonstrations and children's activities should also help to create interest.
