Mr Straw's House

This 1920s tradesman's house, once home to Worksop's grocer Mr Straw, is preserved as it was years ago. A fascinating glimpse into the past, it offers a rare opportunity to see once-common household articles in an original setting.

Those who lived in Worksop during the 1950s and 1960s still remember the mildly eccentric Mr Straw. Despite their relative wealth, the Straw family kept their home as it was from 1920. The National Trust, who own the building today, claim that little or nothing has been thrown away since then.

After extensive renovations, the organisation put everything in its original place, resulting in a ramshackle, lived-in feel. Careful observation reveals curios hidden in each corner and crevice

Please note: the building's size and popularity makes it necessary to arrange viewing in advance.
