Central London's newest venue, St James Theatre, continues its opening season under David Gilmore's artistic directorship, with a new musical. Daddy Long Legs, based on Jean Webster's classic novel, has music and lyrics by Paul Gordon and book by director John Caird.
John Caird has form with musicals - he co-directed Les Miserables - and scored award-winning success in the US with Daddy Long Legs, starring Megan McGinnis as Jerusha Abbott. McGinnis comes to London to recreate the role, alongside Robert Adelman Hancock who plays Abbott's anonymous benefactor.
Set in early-1900s New England, young orphan Abbott makes the most of her anonymous benefactor who provides the wherewithal for her to attend college. His requirement is that they never meet, but that she has to write to him every month, without expecting a response.
