The Monastery, Manchester

Gorton Monastery

The Monastery - A Unique Experience.  Charity owned, The Monastery of St Francis and Gorton Trust was set up in September 1996 to try and save the site and find an appropriate new use for its future.

The development plans have been rooted in the needs of the local community and embraces work in education, training, heritage, craft skills, arts and health.  It took over 10 years to raise £6.5 million needed to restore the site and thanks to the substantial grants from the heritage lottery fund, English Heritage, European Funding (EFDR) and the North West Development Agency (NWDA) with support from the Architectural Heritage Fund and other generous donations, The Monastery can open its doors once again.

This modern-day monastery will take its place as one of Manchester's newest and most inspiring cultural, corporate and social venues, the ideal setting for that special occasion. Here a top-quality, professional service combined with architectural splendour and the distinct quality of the environment will create a motivational and memorable day for visitors.

The magnificent gothic architecture of the former church provides a unique setting for all occasions - perfect for conferences, banquets, exhibitions, corporate events and wedding receptions.

The 10 atmospheric Friary rooms are light and spacious, providing exceptional meeting, seminar and training spaces in a histpric setting with the smaller boardrooms being ideal for intimate meetings, interviews and syndicate work.
