What VisitBritain is doing

Lake and grasses

There are four main elements of VisitBritain’s sustainable tourism strategy, which has an overarching aim to “promote sustainable businesses and encourage responsible visitors”.  These pillars of activities and their aims are detailed here, use the sub-navigation bar above to find out more on what we are doing.

Sustainability is an area which changes quickly at the moment, and as such our strategy is a fluid one that will continue to develop with the needs and expectations of the industry and consumers.  Keep an eye on the content of these subsequent pages for current information.

1. Greening VisitBritain:
To be able to show that VisitBritain has its “house in order”, this entails reducing our environmental impact and raising awareness of sustainable issues amongst the team.

2. Marketing:
To integrate sustainable messages into all of VisitBritain’s marketing campaigns and communications thus promoting sustainable businesses and encouraging visitors to be responsible.

3. Industry Engagement:
To encourage sustainable businesses who work with VisitBritain through the quality agenda and best practice advice for destination managers. (See Doing your bit for more details)

4. Support Government:
To actively contribute to the Government’s sustainable development commitments.
