VisitBritain has created an entry level programme called “Green Start”. It aims to assist businesses to understand what they need to do to become more sustainable and leads them through activities that could improve their business performance. Green Start is available for all accommodation and attractions in England.

Making a Green Start is easier than you think and much of it is common sense business practice. Businesses that have already taken steps to become sustainable report a wide range of benefits that make any effort involved worth it; these include:

• Cost savings, e.g. on utility bills
• Improved quality profile and market edge
• Increased business, e.g. from green conscious consumers
• Improved management efficiency and skills
• A feel-good factor for you and your staff
