Day-time in Bath

Royal Victoria Park

Parks & Gardens

In harmony with Bath’s architectural wonders are its abundant gardens, parklands and green spaces. Royal Victoria Park, on the fringes of the busy shopping streets, is a 57-acre expanse with ornamental lakes, an aviary, botanical garden, bowling green, tennis courts and pavilion as well as a delightful café and a children’s play area.

The riverside Parade Gardens have a very special character. Relax in a deckchair near the bandstand and gaze at the horticultural masterpieces. Then take a tree-lined walk along the River Avon. Sydney Gardens, the oldest in Bath, was a favourite retreat for Jane Austen, and Prior Park, on the wooded southern hillside where city meets country, is a beautiful, intimate 18th-century landscape garden in the care of the National Trust. Partly the work of 'Capability’ Brown, it boasts three lakes and a unique Palladian bridge.
