Night-time in Liverpool
Music scene
To mention Liverpool’s music scene without The Beatles is almost impossible. However, the city is putting itself back on the map with a clutch of new bands currently wowing the music press. The Coral, The Stands and The Zutons are blazing a trail through the UK new music scene and have been ably assisted by some excellent venues. The most famous of all is The Bandwagon at Zanzibar (Seel Street) which helped launch The Coral.
Liverpool Academy (Mount Pleasant) is one of the largest music venues in the city, with a capacity for over 2000 people. The Academy is now well-established as a main venue on the UK tour circuit and has played host to many big names including Coldplay, The Hives and Elvis Costello.
Liverpool has its own Carling Academy (Hotham Street), part of the national chain, which regularly lines up top acts from the past and present, such as Basement Jaxx and Blondie.
For something with a different beat, Garlands (Eberle Street) still thrills with outrageous behaviour, the Lemon Lounge (Berry Street) is funky and friendly, and Society (Fleet Street) is both glamorous and gracious.
