Spinnaker Tower
Moving from history to present day, the newest landmark to grace the Portsmouth waterfront is the iconic Spinnaker Tower, which provides a unique ‘window on the sea’. Soaring 170 metres above Portsmouth Harbour, the tower is visible from miles around and has changed the south coast skyline forever. Higher than the London Eye, and Blackpool Tower, it is the tallest publicly accessible structure in the UK and visitors can choose to ride to the sky in an internal express lift or a glass panoramic lift offering stunning sea views. Very much the voyage of a lifetime, there are three viewing platforms, positioned at 100m, 105m and, for the daring, the top deck at 110p, which is open to the elements.
With the opportunity to sit out in the Spinnaker’s café bar, which has an outdoor terrace right over the water, the waterfront doesn’t come any closer than this.
