A visit to Bolsover District can be rewarding in so many ways, not only to appreciate Bolsover Castle, a 17th Century house containing richly painted rooms, Indoor Riding House and Venus Garden, but to see how man has lived and worked down through the ages. The caves at Creswell Crags, set into a limestone gorge, show how our Ice Age ancestors lived and hunted, leaving behind the bones of reindeer, mammoth and wild horse together with primitive tools which can be seen in the Visitor Centre.
Pagan times gave rise to the Derbyshire tradition of Well-Dressings which every summer are celebrated with pictures made from colourful displays of flowers in villages such as Pleasley and Barlborough.
Hardwick Hall is a fascinating Elizabethan structure which stands in a beautiful 500 acre park. The simplicity of this huge symmetrical building provides the perfect setting for the wonderful collection of world renown tapestries, pictures, furniture and exquisite needlework. The formal gardens include walled courtyards, a herb garden and nature walk.
In the summer months why not travel in style by visiting the area by vintage coach service?
