Today one of Sheringham’s most familiar landmarks has to be the clock tower. It was built in 1862 as a holding reservoir, part of the town’s water supply complete with public tap and horse trough. Opposite the clock tower is Sheringham Little Theatre offering all year round entertainment with live theatre, films, exhibitions, and children’s shows.
The railway originally came to Sheringhamin June 1887 and in 1906 London could be reached on a direct line in 3 hours 13 minutes. Today the restored station is well worth a visit and from here you can take a trip on the famous North Norfolk steam railway, which travels between Sheringham and Holt.
The Domesday Book of 1086 records the existence of a church at Upper Sheringham and that is where the story of Sheringham started with the founding of a community some one and a half miles inland from the town that we now know as Sheringham. Set on the edge of this quaint village is Sheringham Park NT, here you will find plenty of space to roam and the energetic might like to climb the look-out towers for superb views of the surrounding countryside and sea. Be sure to visit in May and June when the magnificent rhododendrons are in full bloom.
