Nuneaton is located in the north east of the county of Warwickshire. Once a small hamlet listed in the Doomsday Book, is now a lively modern town. Its most famous ex-resident was Mary Ann Evans who was also known as George Elliot. Many of the civic buildings and indeed the area around are named after her.
On the edge of the Warwickshire coal field, and with its textile industry developing, the town grew rapidly following the industrial revolution and further developed with the growth of manufacturing in Coventry and Birmingham.
