There was a time when nudism was frowned upon by mainstream society in Britain, but over the years more and more people have come to enjoy the natural state of well, of being nude – and where better to get naked than on the beach! Get back to nature on one of Britain’s top nudist beaches.
1. Studland Beach, Dorset
The award-winning Studland Beach is one of Britain’s most beautiful beaches. It stretches for an enormous 3 miles and northernmost 800 metres, known as Knoll Beach, is the National Trust's only nudist beach.
2. Wild Pear Beach, Combe Martin, Devon
Wild Pear Beach is a delightful sand and pebble cove with steps carved out of the cliff face to create a way down to the beach. Wonderfully secluded, apart from the passing tourist boats which occasionally come right up to the beach for photo opportunities!
3. Black Rock Beach, Brighton
Nudist have been coming to Black Rock Beach since the 1980s, much to the dismay of Brighton Council who called their activities a ‘flagrant exhibition of mammary glands’. Fortunately today the local authorities are a little more open-minded towards nudism.
4. Fraisthorpe Sands, Yorkshire
Perhaps one of the more controversial nudist beaches in Britain, Fraisthorpe has had nudists visitors for over 30 years. However, there have been frequent wrangling with the local authorities and even the police stop nudist bathing – needless to say, this hasn’t stopped it.
5. Druridge Bay, Northumberland
Druridge Bay is a long, wide bay of clean golden sand which backs onto a Country Park. Although this is a privately owned beach, Druridge has welcomed naturists for over 50 years within certain parameters – so make sure you don’t wander into the coutry park naked!
6. Walney Island, Cumbria
The beaches on Britain’s eighth largest island boast stunning sand dunes up to 18 metres high. Soft, silky sands and tall dune make for perfect secluded suntraps where you can get a great all-over tans – with no white bits!
7. Kinshaldy Beach, Fife (Scotland)
Without question the best beach in Fife, Kinshaldy is 3 miles of golden fine sandy beach backed by the wilderness and nature lovers’ paradise of Tentsmuir Forest Nature Reserve. Bear in mind this is paddling and sunbathing beach only as tides can be very strong.
8. Morfa Dyffryn, Gwynedd (Wales)
Morfa Dyffryn is a spectacular National Nature Reserve with a natural and dynamic sand dune system offering a view of Penllyn, and a long beach of golden sand. And it’s a designated nudist area that has been used by naturists for over 60 years!
9. Pednevounder, Cornwall
It’s a bit of a scramble to get to the beach, but once there, you’ll be glad you made the effort. Pednevounder features amazing rock formations including the famous Logan Rock – a 65-ton rock that’s naturally balanced about 100 feet above the sea.
10. North Cotes, Northcoates Point, Lincolnshire
This traditional naturist beach is situated on the Lincolnshire coast. The beach is sandy and very quiet making it popular with naturists despite the sometimes strong winds. Make sure you don’t cross into the nature reserve to the north of the beach.
