Day 1: Winscombe - Dartmoor
Winscombe - Dartmoor: 90 miles (146 km)
Totals for Day: 90 miles (146 km)
Thatchers, Winscombe
Martin Thatcher comes from a family that has been making cider for more than a hundred years and is now Somerset's biggest independent cider-producer. Thatchers produce Oak-Matured Cider conditioned in rum barrels, which impart a subtle aroma and distinct touch of demerara giving the drink a smooth edge. Nothing is wasted at Thatchers - not even the apple pulp, which goes out for cattle food!
Riverford Farm, Dartmoor
John Watson began farming at Riverford in Dartmoor in 1951. His passion for good food led to a total family commitment to getting produce from farm to kitchen table by the most direct route. Riverford is now one of the country's largest independent growers, and includes the farm, dairy, an organic vegetable business and 3 farm shops with butchery, bakery and kitchens.
