Overview

The Offa's Dyke Path National Trail (www.nationaltrail.co.uk/OffasDyke/index.asp?PageId=1) follows the England-Wales border from the Severn estuary, near Chepstow, to Prestatyn, on the North Wales coast. The Path takes in a captivating variety of unspoiled landscapes: secluded river valleys, windswept ridges, undulating pastures and ancient woodland. It takes its name from Offa's Dyke, the ancient earthwork that once marked the edge of the Saxon Kingdom of Mercia.

River Wye - Offa's Dyke Path Itinerary

Sedbury Cliffs

The Offa's Dyke Path National Trail starts in England, at the marking stone in Sedbury Cliffs, near Chepstow. The cliffs are situated on the western bank of the River Severn, and the first section of the walk takes you away from the cliffs and you'll find yourself loosely following the River Wye.

Symond's Yat on the river Wye, Monmouth

Monmouth

On your walk, you cross the border into Wales, and your first stop is the town of Monmouth. Set in the heart of the Wye Valley, Monmouth is officially designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The town is steeped in history, and a walk around will introduce you to the Roman and Medieval beginnings, Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards.
