Getting to Southampton
The city of Southampton has long been at the forefront of cruise passenger handling. Situated in Hampshire, the city benefits from its great location, easy links to London and sheltered port.
Access to the city couldn’t be easier. Just 75 miles from London, fast motorways, a direct rail link and frequent bus services provide many options for fast, affordable and frequent services to the city. An important Roman and then Saxon settlement, it is Southampton’s medieval glory that is most evident today. Town walls from this period are amongst the best preserved in Britain, with over half still intact and 13 of the original 29 towers still standing. And if it’s shopping that you’re looking for, the newly built West Quay Shopping Mall in the city centre will surely satisfy your needs.
If you have the opportunity, take time out around the region and explore the magnificent Wessex region, home to the ancient capital of England and visit the reputed round table of King Arthur in Winchester. Or take a leisurely stroll through the ancient forest named… the New Forest!
Further information about the region is available from Visit Southampton (www.visit-southampton.co.uk) and South East England (www.visitsoutheast.co.uk ) websites and for more information on the port, visit the port of Southampton (www.abports.co.uk/custinfo/ports/soton.htm).
