Booking & hailing

Taxis

You can hail a black taxi in the street by raising your arm when the yellow 'For Hire' sign on the top of the taxi is illuminated. It's advisable to go to a main road to hail a taxi, as they tend not to run in quiet areas.

It can be difficult to hail a taxi in popular tourist or nightclub areas, and at busy times, such as after 23:00 (when many pubs close). You can book a taxi in advance by phone on +44 (0)20 7272 0272. There is a charge of £2.00 for telephone bookings.

Minicabs

You can book a minicab by phoning or visiting a local minicab office (telephone numbers can be found in the Yellow Pages telephone directory or at www.yell.com (www.yell.com/)). You can book a minicab up to a day in advance, or as and when you need it, but if you're in a rush, remember that you may have to wait a little while for an available driver to pick you up.
