Brecon Beacons National Park

A South Wales gem

Brecon Beacons

Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales, UK

The Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales is home to 520 square miles of open moorland, lush green valleys, hidden waterfalls, fern-filled gorges, four spectacular mountain ranges and Fforest Fawr, Wales’ first European and UNESCO Global Geopark.

As well as this abundance of natural beauty, you’ll discover over 7,000 years of human history from ancient standing stones, Bronze Age burial cairns, Iron Age hillforts and Roman ruins to medieval castles and the Industrial Revolution landmarks of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site.

Feeling active? The Brecon Beacons is great for walking, cycling, climbing, gliding, caving and more, but if you fancy something a little gentler, try a spot of brown trout fishing in the River Usk or tee off at one of the area’s eight golf courses.

All that activity is bound to work up an appetite, so head to one of the nearby traditional Welsh villages or market towns within the park to taste local specialities including Welsh lamb, cheese and the famous Glamorgan sausage.
