Day 1: Ascot - Henley

From Heathrow it's just a short journey to Ascot and the new world-class racecourse. Come on a race day and take advantage of the superb new grandstand's facilities.

River & Rowing Museum (Henley)

A short journey west from Ascot takes you to Henley. Find out what it's like to sit in a cox's seat as you race at Henley Royal Regatta – a great interactive exhibit in the Rowing Gallery that tells the fascinating story of one of Britain's oldest sports.

Day 2: Newbury - Newmarket

British Balloon Museum (Newbury)

For a complete contrast, stop off a little further west at Newbury and wander around this colourful, quirky museum where you’ll find everything you ever wanted to know about hot-air ballooning – all under one roof.

National Horseracing Museum (Newmarket)

Drive northeast across country to the horseracing centre of Newmarket. The story of 'the sport of kings' unfolds as you tour this museum - the people and horses involved in racing. Tack up a model horse and find out about the daily routine in a trainer's yard then dress up in silks before weighing out and riding a horse simulator.

Day 3: Castle Donington - Leeds

Newmarket - Castle Donington: 111 miles (178.8 km)

Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit (Castle Donington)

Heading north, this is a must if you’re a Formula 1 fan – it holds the largest collection of Grand Prix racing cars in the world. Five halls, with over 130 exhibits, illustrate the history of motorsport from the turn of the 20th century. Cars include examples driven by many of the sport’s most famous names.

Headingley Cricket Ground (Leeds)

Continuing your journey north, it’s worth stopping in Leeds if you’re a cricket fan. Headingley is the home of Yorkshire Cricket Club, one of England’s greatest county cricket teams. You can see a Test Match game or catch one of the regular county games.

Day 4: Edinburgh - St Andrews

Murrayfield Rugby Stadium (Edinburgh)

Cross the border into Scotland and drive to the home of Scottish Rugby at Murrayfield, Edinburgh. On a behind-the- scenes tour feel the passion of Scottish Rugby for yourself by walking in the footsteps of legends as you visit the dressing rooms, players’ tunnel, Royal Box, hospitality suites and the world famous pitch.

British Golf Museum (St Andrews)

Head to St Andrews to uncover the story of British golf from its origins in the Middle Ages to the present day through diverse displays and exciting interactive exhibits. The museum explores the players, tournaments and equipment, both past and present, which help to make golf the game it is today.

Day 5: Glasgow

St Andrews - Glasgow: 75 miles (120.9 km)

Hampden Park (Glasgow)

Drive southwest to Glasgow and Hampden Park, the oldest international ground still in use. It’s had a multi-million pound facelift and houses the new Museum of Scottish Football where you can trace the history of the game in Scotland.

Ibrox & Celtic Park (Glasgow)

Head for the hallowed grounds of one of Glasgow’s two famous rival teams – Rangers and Celtic. At Ibrox, go on the Rangers Tour Experience and sense the tension in the home and away dressing rooms and over at Celtic Park take the tour and visit the club’s museum.

Day 6: Liverpool

Glasgow - Liverpool: 218 miles (351 km)

Liverpool Football Club (Anfield)

Drive south back into England and stop off at Anfield, home of another great Premiership team. The stadium tour takes you behind the scenes, visiting the dressing rooms, down the tunnel to the sound of the crowd, a chance to touch the famous "This Is Anfield" sign and sit in the team dug-out.

Day 7: Cardiff

Liverpool - Cardiff: 200 miles (312.9 km)

Millennium Stadium (Cardiff)

Turn south to Cardiff and visit the Millennium Stadium, a wonderful venue in the heart of the city used for both football and rugby matches. On the stadium tour run down the players’ tunnel and imagine yourself being greeted by 72,500 people eagerly awaiting the pain and the glory of rugby at its best.

Formed in 1888, Glamorgan Cricket Club has a fascinating history - find out about it through memorabilia and displays at the National Cricket Centre and take a guided tour of the club’s Sophia Gardens stadium.
