In 1881, Stanley Cricket Club formed a football team during the winter months and a year later they changed their name to East End FC. In 1892 they moved to their current home St James’s park and changed their name to Newcastle United shortly afterwards.

Did you know?
Newcastle United FC is known as “The Toon" and “The Toon Army", both in reference to the way in which Geordies pronounce the word ‘Town’. However, the most common nickname for the club remains “The Magpies".
