Showcasing new talent, discovery and innovation
Running from 16-27 June 2010, this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) promises a glittering programme of new films and star-studded events.
Born alongside the famous Edinburgh International Festival in 1947, EIFF was one of the world’s first international film festivals. The red-carpet film culture we see all over the world was defined by the early years events like this; and there’s no shortage of glamour today.
EIFF is hugely important to both the UK and international film industry and one of the world’s best-loved audience festivals – during the festival period, Edinburgh is buzzing the excitement to match Oscars week Hollywood and the Venice and Cannes Film Festivals all rolled into one.
With an emphasis on new talent, discovery and innovation, EIFF’s vibrant programme of films and events is a great way to see both upcoming talent and your favourite blockbuster stars – either on screen or in the flesh!
Featured movies at this year’s festival include; Baraboo – a touching, quirky and beautifully-shot directorial debut by David Lynch's long-time editor, Mary Sweeney; Fragments – from acclaimed Australian director Rowan Woods and featuring an all-star cast follows the fallout from a single tragic event; and Kabuliwallah – master director Tapan Sinha’s early classic portraying a moving story of humanism set in Calcutta.
And of course there will be plenty of premieres, parties and star-spotting to be done too!
