Premier League | Everton

The club was founded as St Domingo FC so that the people from the parish of St Domingo’s Church could also participate in a sport outside the summer months, when they played cricket. The club was renamed Everton when people from outside the parish also wanted to join the team.

Did you know?
In the early twentieth century, Everton were referred to as "The Midnight Dribblers" as the club always trained late at night. They later became known as “The Toffees" when the team moved to Goodison Park. However, the origin of the nickname is still debatable.  It is thought that this was due to a popular Toffee shop that was located close to the stadium.
