ジャイアンツ・コーズウェー‐ 北アイルランド

この不思議な造岩は約4万本の巨大な黒玄武岩が海から突き出て生れ、何世紀もの間、神話と伝説に包み込まれてきました。見ればその理由が分かるでしょう。この奇妙な造形が自然にできたとは到底思えないからです。

実際、昔のアイルランド人は自然がこんな壮大な光景を作り出したとは考えもしませんでした。彼らには、こんなものは巨人の仕業以外の何ものでもなかったのです。具体的に言えば、巨人中の巨人、アイルランド王を守るガーディアンのリーダー、フィン・マックールです。

伝説によれば、自慢たらたらのあるスコットランドの巨人がスコットランドの海岸に立ってマックールをやじり、その戦士としての腕前をからかいました。「おまえなんかひとつきで殺せる」と愚かなスコットランドの巨人は言いました。「でも、残念ながら、私は泳げない」。マックールは激怒し断崖を粉々に砕き海を渡るコーズウェイ（土手道）を作りました。大胆にも騒いだからには、このスコットランドの巨人も渡るほかなかったのですが、マックールの実際の大きさに気づいて、小さな女の子のように飛んでスコットランドに逃げ帰ったということです。
これはジャイアンツ・コーズウェーがどのようにして生れたかを語る伝説の一つに過ぎません（その多くには破壊不能のフィン・マックールが登場します）。しかし、コーズウェーは300年以上に渡り地質学者に研究されており、あまり魅力的とは言えませんが、5,000～6,000万年前の火山活動により生れたものということで意見が一致しています。

St. Cuthbert's Graveyard- burial place of some of the few salvaged bodies of the 1,200 sailors who died when the Spanish merchant boat 'The Girona' floundered on Lacada Point in 1588.

Giants Causeway Tramway- take a ride along the coast from Portrush to Ballycastle on one of three original and carefully restored steam trains.
