Memory of Newcastle-Gateshead

"What a brilliant experience. Stunning architecture, lush landscapes, but what struck my partner and I the most was the friendliness of all the locals. Have stayed in a few places but have never been so taken aback by the friendliness and warmth of so many people!"

Heather, Christchurch, New Zealand

Centre of cultural excellence

In the North East of England, Newcastle and Gateshead face each other across the River Tyne coming together at the dazzling Quayside. Awash with restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels and must-see tourist attractions including the award-winning Gateshead Millennium Bridge and the Angel of the North, Newcastle-Gateshead is the perfect holiday destination for sampling the best of North East England.

Culture & heritage

Newcastle-Gateshead is known throughout the world as a vibrant centre of cultural excellence. Cutting-edge attractions and historic buildings are animated with fabulous events and festivals, parks and gardens are blooming, and world-class sport is available for all to enjoy. Almost 2,000 years have left their mark here – in buildings, bridges and the broad sweeping streets.

Tarikan

Newcastle-Gateshead is full of must-see attractions. Don’t miss the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art , a free gallery with great changing exhibitions. The Castle Keep is another of the city’s must-sees. It’s built on the site of the 11th century, wooden ‘New Castle’ built by William the Conqueror’s son – and from where the city takes it’s name, the view from the battlements is well worth the climb.

Label lovers should head for the shops in Princess Square in the heart of the city, and in the side streets you’ll find individual boutiques for picking up that one-off bargain.
