The world’s longest-running motoring event
On Sunday 7 November the world’s largest gathering of veteran cars will set off from London’s Hyde Park to chug the 60 miles or so to Brighton on the South Coast of England.
The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is the longest-running motoring event in the world, first organised in 1896 to celebrate the lifting of restrictive speed limits of 4mph in the country and 2mph in town. When the Locomotives on Highways Act 1896 was passed, a new speed limit of 14mph was applied and the age of the motor car had begun.
You’ll be able to see these rare cars all along the route but the finish on the Brighton sea front is truly fantastic with most of the 500 vehicles staying around until the end of the day. Expect plenty of character, individuality and of course, some truly classic cars from all over the world.
