Ramsey

Ramsey, Rhumsaa in Gaelic, is on the north east of the island; it is a busy fishing and general cargo port. The Electric Railway departs from Ramsey to Laxey and Douglas. The South Promenade has a wide sandy beach and the sixth longest pier in the British Isles. Hidden behind the North Promenade is the Mooragh Park, with sailing, paddling, bowls, crazy golf and a children’s play area; it is also the venue for many of the summer events. Ramsey has many country walks, from the easy to the more demanding, and it is the starting point for the island-long Mountain Marathon at Easter. The Grove Museum is a perfectly preserved Victorian house, depicting the life of a Liverpool merchant’s summer retreat. During the summer months Ramsey is host to many events, from drag racing to Celtic dancing, brass bands and yacht racing.
