Day-time in Birmingham
Gardens & Historic Houses
Did you know that there are more acres of park and open spaces in Birmingham than any other city in the UK? And few European cities can match Birmingham as a “green” city. There are 8,000 acres of parks and public open spaces including Sutton Park, the largest urban nature reserve in Europe.
Why not take a trip to the Botanical Gardens with acres of gardens and impressive glasshouses? Other stunning horticultural delights can be enjoyed at the Botanic Garden at Winterbourne and Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens. These are home to a number of special events and courses throughout the year.
The city is steeped in history and heritage. It boasts a wealth of historic sites including Aston Hall, one of England’s finest Jacobean Mansions; Soho House, which is the former home of the 18th Century novelist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton; Sarehole Mill, with its Tolkein Literary connections and the world famous Jewellery Quarter. Blakesley Hall is an interesting grade II listed Elizabethan farmhouse.
