Day-time in Liverpool
Music
Think of Liverpool and you think of The Beatles. Memphis aside, no other city in the world can claim reference merely by mention of one name. Their legacy is etched throughout the city.
For pure Beatles nostalgia head for Mathew Street, location of the Cavern Club and possibly the liveliest street in the city. You'll find plenty of Beatles souvenir shops here as well as a whole string of pubs and cafes steeped in popular musical history. A good photo opportunity is the Wall of Fame outside the Cavern Pub, erected to acknowledge Liverpool as the Capital of Pop.
Tune into the swinging sixties with a tour around The Beatles Story, complete with yellow submarine, or take a two hour Magical Mystery Tour, which visits Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and the houses where the band members grew up.
Those wanting to get closer to their idols should take a National Trust tour to Forthlin Road and Mendips, the former homes of Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
Beatlemania is enthusiastically celebrated during the annual Beatles Week at the end of August, when the city is filled with fans from all over the world.
