The National Forest

One of the country’s least wooded regions is being dramatically transformed by The National Forest across Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

Already 700 miles of Forest paths can be explored in over 400 ancient and new woodlands – perfect for walking and wildlife watching, cycling and horse-riding. There is a wealth of wet-weather options too, ranging from farm parks to forestry centres, interactive discovery parks to stately homes and ancient castles to craft centres.

Combine a peaceful riverside walk with a brewery tour in Burton upon Trent, go skiing or tobogganing all year round at Swadlincote or try sailing or fishing on one of the Forest’s reservoirs or waterways.

With the wealth of things to do and see in The National Forest you can be as busy as you choose…. or simply relax and enjoy stunning landscapes, sparkling reservoirs, and large swathes of new and ancient woodland.

In just ten years, six million trees have been planted. In this ever-changing landscape, as the woodland cover spreads and the Forest grows, one thing is guaranteed – there is always something new to see.   As well as visiting this ‘Forest in the making’, you can contribute to its development by planting or adopting a tree.
