Situated in the geographical centre of the country – marked by a stone cross on Meriden village green and was first recorded c1170 in the Red Book of the Exchequer. The name derives from the Anglo Saxon and means muddy or soiley hill. The heritage of the town is beautifully preserved in the 15th-century Manor House and medieval parish church of St Alphege in the high street.
The Borough borders Birmingham, Coventry, Worcestershire and Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. Solihull town is only 8 miles from Birmingham city centre with its many attractions including restored canals, historical buildings, the NIA and Symphony Hall. The Midland's newest visitor centre is the highly successful Thinktank at Millennium Point, only 7 miles away in Digbeth, Birmingham.
Two premiership football clubs, Birmingham City and Aston Villa are both located within a few miles of Solihull.
Served by superb road, rail and air links, the Borough is home to the word-famous National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Just 4 miles from the heart of the Borough, the NEC is located next to Birmingham International Airport and Birmingham International Railway Station.
If you're travelling by road, the M42 motorway passes within 2 miles of the town centre, providing easy access to the M6, M40 and M5. And, if you're feeling energetic, you could even walk to Solihull along the 80-mile Heart of England Way.
