BFI London Film Festival

British Film Institute

If you love film, don't miss the Times BFI London Film Festival, taking place from Wednesday 15 October to Thursday 30 October. Held at the British Film Institute in London, it's Britain's largest public film event and is now in its 52nd year.

The London Film Festival showcases the best, most creative and original films of the year from all over the world. It's different from other European film festivals as it's about bringing films to the public. So you get to see films that might not otherwise have been screened in Britain, and also films that'll be screened later in the year.

This year's festival includes screenings of 189 feature films and 108 short films, as well as documentaries, celebrity screen talks, film masterclasses and live events.

The festival opens on Wednesday 15 October with the world premiere of Universal Pictures’ electrifying drama ‘Frost/Nixon’, from Oscar®-winning director/producer Ron Howard. This is just one of the Festival’s 15 world premieres, and the festival also gives you the chance to attend the first public screening of the new James Bond film, ‘Quantum of Solace’, just minutes after the film’s world premiere on Wednesday 29 October.

Also hosting 20 European and 119 UK premieres, the London Film Festival is showing films from 43 countries including Iceland, Kazakhstan, Chile and Liberia. There are also 19 documentary features and the festival’s cutting edge Experimenta strand to look forward to.

If you’re hoping to do some star spotting, don’t miss the Masterclasses, where you can see Frost/Nixon screenwriter Peter Morgan and Synechdoche New York’s writer-director Charlie Kaufman. And Robert Carlyle will be one of 4 special guests in the Screen Talks series of career interviews.

British director Danny Boyle closes the festival on Thursday 30 October with the European premiere of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, a vibrant, modern love story set and shot in India.

Public booking for the festival is now open at BFI London Film Festival (www.bfi.org.uk/lff/), where you can also find the full events programme and venue information.
