If you want to really get to know Glasgow well then put on a comfortable pair of walking shoes and take to the streets. The city has amazing links with art and architecture, and its 13 museums means Glasgow has one of the richest collections in Europe. One of the first places to visit is the Glasgow School of Art (www.gsa.ac.uk) and also take time to visit the city’s famous Cathedral.

Clydebuilt

The River Clyde cuts its way through Glasgow. In recent years the city has witnessed a rebirth along the banks of the river. The Clydebuilt (www.scottishmaritimemuseum.org/renfrew.htm) is a dynamic new attraction devoted to the shipbuilding industry and offers an insight into Glasgow’s development. You could jump on the Clyde waterbus to get there and back to the city centre.

Kelvingrove re-opens

Glasgow celebrates the re-opening of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (www.glasgowmuseums.com/venue/index.cfm?venueid=4) following completion of an extensive refurbishment programme including its magnificent Victorian interior. At Kelvingrove you can see over 8,000 objects including new exhibitions and galleries such as one to showcase Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
