A1GP World Cup of Motorsport 2008

Robbie Kerr in the Great Britain A1 car

May sees one of the biggest motorsport events in the British sporting calendar – and it’s also a great idea for a different family day out in Britain. A1GP World Cup of Motorsport takes place from Friday 2 – Sunday 4 May at Brands Hatch Circuit in Kent.

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport is the first opportunity in any area of motorsport for nations, rather than drivers, to compete against each other on a level playing field. This fresh and unique concept of motor racing means that driver ability, rather than financial or technological advantage, is what wins the race.

Now in its third season, A1GP has become a permanent fixture on the world motorsport calendar, with over 22 nations competing in 10 different countries, making it a truly international series.

Despite its glamorous profile, the race prides itself on being both accessible and affordable to all fans. And it’s not just motorsport fans that love the A1GP World Cup – it’s a great day out for anyone who is passionate about their heritage and country.

Robbie Kerr - A1 driver for Great Britain

What is A1 Team Great Britain?

Britain’s only national motor-racing team, A1 Team GBR kicked off the inaugural season of A1GP in style with the very first round taking place on home soil at Brands Hatch circuit, Kent in September 2005.  The event welcomed a truly international crowd, each rooting for their respective nations as they battled wheel-to-wheel on the Grand Prix circuit.

Unfortunately for A1 Team GBR driver Robbie Kerr, technical failure in the Feature race prevented a near certain podium finish, if not a maiden victory. Fortunately the sell-out crowd, many patriotically waving union flags, returned to Brands Hatch circuit 18 month later for the 2006/07 A1GP season finale, where Robbie Kerr put the record straight and created a piece of series history with the first home win in the Sprint race. Always a podium contender, Great Britain has a consistent, strong results record, leading to third-placed Championship standings in both the 2005/06 and 2006/07 Championships. The British squad has its sights firmly on the top step of the podium ahead of the 2007/08 A1GP season, utilising the strong-driver line up of seasoned GBR driver Robbie Kerr and last years rookie and proven race winner Oliver Jarvis. British fans will again have a chance to see their team race for glory in the red, white and blue A1GP car at the 2007/08 A1GP season finale at Brands Hatch on 3-4 May 2008.
