Holker Hall

Yew Tree Farm (Coniston)

You'll be warmly welcomed into the world of Beatrix Potter the moment you step into Yew Tree House (www.yewtree-farm.com/) in the small Lake District villiage of Coniston. It was the setting for 'Hill Top (www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-hilltop/)', Beatrix's home, in the film. Beatrix herself decorated the front tearoom of the farm, which she opened to the public in 1933.

Tarn Hows

Beatrix Potter Gallery & Hill Top (Hawkshead)

Visit Hawkshead, the tiny village of houses, archways and squares that inspired Beatrix Potter. Tucked within this quaint village is the Beatrix Potter Gallery (www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-beatrixpottergallery/), showcasing original drawings of her famous characters. You'll also find Hill Top (www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-hilltop/), the delightful 17th-century house where Beatrix lived and worked.

Dove Cottage

The Queens Head Pub (Hawkshead)

Just down the road, you can stop for a quick drink at the Queens Head Hotel (www.queensheadhotel.co.uk/). The Queens Head was serving locals back when Potter wrote, painted and reared her beloved Herdwick sheep. More recently, Renee Zellweger and the film crew regularly enjoyed a drink here during the filming of Miss Potter.

Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel & Restaurant (Bowness-on Windermere)

After a long day of exploring, unwind in the luxurious Lindeth Howe (www.lindeth-howe.co.uk/), just 5 miles south of Hawkshead. Set in its own private gardens, Lindeth Howe was once owned by Beatrix Potter. The views over the lake are spectacular and lead the imagination into Beatrix Potter's world.

Windermere Golf Course

Holbeck Ghyll (Windermere)

End the day with a stay at the majestic Holbeck Ghyll Hotel (www.holbeckghyll.com/), just north of Hawkshead. The hotel was Renee Zellweger's base during filming for Miss Potter. Overlooking Lake Windermere and the Langdale Fells, it's celebrated as one of the Lake District’s finest country house hotels, and is an oasis of calm.
