Walk the 1.5 mile (2.4 km) path around the tarn and take in the thick woodland and views towards Helvellynn Range and Langdale Pikes. Beatrix donated this land to the National Trust, who look after it.

World of Beatrix Potter (Bowness-on-Windermere)

Take a trip to Bowness-on-Windermere, just south of Hawkshead, and pay a visit to Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Mrs Tiggy-winkle and their friends at the World of Beatrix Potter (www.hop-skip-jump.com/ ). Here you’ll see 23 of Potter’s story in 3-dimentional exhibits featuring her most famous and loveable characters.

Glass House Hotel (Ambleside)

End your Beatrix Potter experience in Ambleside, with a meal at the Glass House Restaurant (www.theglasshouserestaurant.co.uk/index1.htm).
