Cardiff Castle contains over 2,000 years of history, with Roman walls and a Norman keep alongside the refurbished Victorian elegance of the Bute family home. The 3rd Marquis of Bute, possibly the richest man in the world at the time, transformed the Castle into an extravagant palace. National Museum and Gallery of Wales (www.nmgw.ac.uk ) 
Thanks to the two Davies sisters, who collected art in the early Twentieth Century, the National Gallery has one of the finest collections of Impressionist paintings outside of Paris –and here at least you won’t have to queue to see them. The audio guide will take you around the archeological and art exhibitions, and prepare to be impressed with what you will find. (Free entry, closed Mondays, deposit required for audio-guide.) Millennium Stadium (www.millenniumstadium.com) 
Home of Welsh rugby and football, the stadium has hosted FA Cup Finals, the Rugby World Cup, supercross and numerous supergroups, including Robbie Williams and the Manic Street Preachers.  Visitors can take a tour and walk through the player’s tunnel, visit the dressing rooms, the pitch, and even try out the Queen’s seat in the Royal Box. Wales Millennium Centre (www.wmc.org.uk ) 
Dominating the skyline in Cardiff Bay, the new Wales Millennium Centre is equally as impressive on the inside.  Home to seven major arts organizations, including the Welsh National Opera, the centre will present international opera, ballet, dance and musicals, all with prices to please arts novices as well as arts lovers.
