Disabled access on buses

Bus in Trafalgar Square

All of London's buses are wheelchair accessible via a ramp on the rear doors. There are also increasing numbers of 'bendy' buses serving bus routes, which are easier for wheelchair users and people with difficulty climbing stairs to board.

The space on buses reserved for wheelchairs is shared with the space saved for babies' prams, so it's best to travel outside rush hours and other busy times if possible. Wheelchair users get priority for these spaces on buses, and the driver can ask people with prams to fold them.

Most London buses are now fitted with easy to grip handrails, high colour contrast and on-board information systems for people with sensory impairments. Guide dogs, hearing dogs, and fetch and carry dogs are allowed onto buses and all public transport in London.

Wheelchair users travel free on all public transport for London.
