Licensing & advice
Taxis
When you travel by taxi, make sure it's licensed. On the back of the taxi, there should be a plate with the words 'Taxi License' followed by a number. If the taxi does not have this, it is either a minicab or an illegal taxi.
Here's a list of some licensed taxi companies in London:
- Dial-a-cab: +44 (0)20 7253 5000
- Radio Taxis: +44 (0)20 7272 0272
- Computer Cabs: +44 (0)20 7286 0286
Minicabs
Minicabs are not regulated in the same way as taxis. All minicab operators must hold an operating licence issued by the Public Carriage Office (PCO), and for your safety, you should only used licensed companies. Licensed minicabs should display a PCO disk in their front or rear window. Don't accept offers from drivers touting for business on the streets; they are acting illegally.
