Day-time in York

York Minster

Attractions

This superbly preserved walled city has witnessed more than 2000 years of vibrant history. It is one of the most intriguing cities in England, offering layer upon layer of history, beauty and sheer diversity.

The city is full of architectural gems, York Minster, Treasurer’s House, Barley Hall, Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, Clifford’s Tower and Fairfax House to name but a few. For a bird’s eye view, climb the city walls, stopping en route at Micklegate Bar and Richard III Museums.

The National Railway Museum boasts the world’s finest collection of Royal trains, record breaking Mallard, a replica of Stephenson’s Rocket and the world famous Flying Scotsman.

Glide through Viking York in one of JORVIK’s time capsules or for a real hands-on experience try out the Archaeological Resource Centre.

The York Castle Museum tells the original story of everyday life in York. Walk down cobbled streets, peer through windows of shops long gone and experience life in Victorian and Edwardian Britain.

You can see York from many angles – on a relaxing river cruise, a refreshing open top bus tour and on informative guided walks.

This is also a scary place! 7 different ghost walks of the officially most haunted city in the world more than match the gruesome goings-on at the York Dungeon!
