The beautiful dunescape of Braunton Burrows makes for lost afternoons of blissful exploring. The burrows area covers over 6km along the shore and some 2km inland, making it one of the largest sand dune systems in the UK. The burrows are a wild and natural landscape offering tranquil sheltered spots for those seeking peace and quiet. The rarity, diversity and profusion of flora and fauna on the Burrows resulted in UNESCO recently designating it as a World Biosphere Reserve.
Slightly inland is the village of Braunton which claims to be the largest village in England. This is a popular centre for both conventional shoppers and the numerous surfers who pass through the village on their way to catch the waves at the local beaches.
