Snowdonia National Park is the mountainous area of north west Wales and includes the highest mountain in England and Wales – Mount Snowdon.
There are two choices to get to the top of Mt Snowdon, either one of the seven walking trails of varying difficulty or take the train (the only rack and pinion railway). Either way, from the top on a clear day there are great views across the national park and possibly Ireland.
Famed for its cluster of well preserved medieval castles – Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech they were built by Edward 1st and have been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Portmeirion is the unique Italianate village by Tremadog Bay designed by the eccentric Sir Clough Williams–Ellis, he wanted “to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it” today it is a beautiful village and has a very luxurious hotel to stay.
The legacy of the slate industry Llechwedd Slate Caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog provides a poignant insight into the life and working conditions of a Victorian Slate worker. The Ffestiniog Railway, today is a visitor attraction travelling through the mountain scenery from Blaenau Ffestiniog through to the coast at Porthmadog.
