The Real Japanese Garden, now transplanted to Carmarthenshire in West Wales, was awarded Best in Show at the 2001 Chelsea Flower Show. Creator Professor Fukuhara won over the judges with his scaled down Japanese scenery. Just feel your worries slip away.
A gilded water buffalo overlooks the garden known as ‘China’ at Biddulph Grange Gardens in Staffordshire. Visitors enter a secluded garden through eerie rock tunnels to cross the exquisite willow pattern bridge over a koi carp pond. An ornate pagoda crammed with gilded dragons and carved grebes sits perfectly amongst the Japanese maples, cherries and azaleas.
Stones, gravel and grass are used at the St Mungo Zen Garden in Glasgow to represent mountains, water and land. The overall effect is of peace and harmony. Simplicity is the key here.
Tatton Park, in Cheshire, is home to one of the most famous Japanese gardens in the country. The Shinto Shrine draws you to explore the tea garden, with its mossy carpet and lush ferns. Spring and autumn colours light up the landscape. No wonder these gardens are regarded as dwelling places of the gods in their native lands.
