Gay Cardiff
About Cardiff
Over the last few years Cardiff has become one of the most popular cities in Britain to visit. This may be because it is the spiritual home of Welsh rugby – where the best players shave their legs. It could be because it is the birthplace of Welsh divas Shirley Bassey and Charlotte Church, or it could simply be because a night out in Cardiff is always memorable.
Cardiff is celebrating its centenary as a city and 50 years as capital of Wales in 2005, and a whole host of events are being enhanced to mark the occasion - including a bigger and better Mardi Gras in the autumn and a longer and livelier carnival in the summer.
Anyone who hasn’t visited Cardiff recently will discover dozens of new bars, restaurants and hotels within the city centre and Cardiff Bay. The traditional attractions of Cardiff Castle and the National Museum and Gallery of Wales have now been joined by the modern appeal of the Millennium Stadium and the new Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay – which hosts opera, musicals and dance amongst other performances.
The gay scene is Cardiff is focused on two main areas – Charles Street in the heart of the city centre and Bute Terrace, close to the train station. Both are minutes away from St. Mary Street – Cardiff’s main bar area, and Queen Street, the main shopping area in the city.
