การดื่มสุรากับการขับรถ

Drink driving is a very serious crime in Britain and can result in a prison sentence. Alcohol can have a serious affect on your judgement and ability to drive. The legal limit in Britain is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, 35mg of alcohol to 100ml of breath, or 100mg of alcohol per 100ml of urine.

Here are some of the effects alcohol can have on you when you drive:

  • False sense of confidence
  • Reduced co-ordination and slowness of reactions
  • Change in your judgement of speed, distance and risk
  • Reduced driving ability, even if you are below the legal limit
  • Alcohol takes time to leave your body, you may be unfit to drive in the evening after drinking at lunchtime, or in the morning after drinking the previous evening.

Police can ask you to take a breath test at the side of the road if they have reason to believe that you're over the legal limit. For your own safety, if you're going to drink, arrange another means of transport.

The maximum penalty, if you're convicted of driving or attempting to drive whilst above the legal limit, is 6 months imprisonment plus a £5,000 fine and a driving ban for at least 12 months.
